About Bernard Poulin
Bernard Poulin, a leading member of Canada’s engineering community, is President and CEO of S.M. Group International, Inc. The company offers a number of services in engineering, scientific applications, and the integration of technology. Alongside his role as an executive, Mr. Poulin has played a consulting role on several boards and is a member of several organizations that have contributed to the advancement of engineering in Canada and around the world.
As an undergraduate engineering student at the University of Sherbrooke in 1972, Bernard Poulin founded Labo S.M., Inc., a soil-engineering and quality-control laboratory. Thus, he established the firm that would come to be known as S.M. Group International. Mr. Poulin added a number of other engineering services to the firm’s offerings over the years, including project design, development, and management, and systems and networks integration. Under several decades of leadership by Mr. Poulin, the company has extended its operations to 30 countries worldwide and now employs more than 1,400 individuals. It is considered among Canada’s top five engineering firms.
Bernard Poulin has advised Canada’s Minister of Industry while serving on the government's Special Advisory Group on International Trade, and has also served as Vice President on the Executive Committee of the International Business Group. He is currently a member of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada and sits on the Advisory Committee of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Quebec. Furthermore, he is actively associated with the Order of Engineers of Quebec and the American Society of Civil Engineers.
In addition to his work as a professional, Bernard Poulin is an active patron and charitable contributor within his community. Mr. Poulin is a co-founder of the Sherbrooke Museum of Fine Arts Foundation and a member of the boards of the Charles LeMoyne Hospital Foundation and the Jewish General Hospital Foundation.
